The Telltale Head

Season 1, Episode 8

Chalk Board: I did not see Elvis

Bart and Homer are walking back to deliver the head back to where Bart stole it, Jebediah Springfield’s statue when an angry mob chases them around Springfield and back to the statue.spacerun: yes">  Bart tries to explain as the crowd gets angrier.  It all starts with…

Last Sunday, before church, Homer decides he does not want to go and instead wants to stay home to watch the football game on TV.  Marge forces him to go to be a good role model for the children but as they pull up to church, Homer stays in the car listening to the football game on the radio.  Marge notices Bart is listening to his walkman and gets mad and throws it back in the car.  That is when she notices Homer is still in the car as well and forces him out (although he slyly takes Bart’s walkman into church).

In Sunday school the children ask who will go to Heaven:

Little Girl- “Will my dog Pepper be there?”

Teacher- “I am sorry, but the answer is no.”

Little Girl- “Why not?”

Teacher- “Cause Heaven is for people.”

Lisa- “What about my cat, Snowball?”

Teacher- “I am sorry, but the answer is no.”

Milhouse- “Will there be Cavemen in Heaven?”

Teacher- “Certainly not.”

Bart- “Um, mam. What if you are a really good person, but you are in a really, really bad fight and your leg gets gangrene and has to be amputated, will it be waiting for you in Heaven?”

Teacher- “For the last time Bart, yes.”

Meanwhile back in the main church, Homer is listening to the football game on his headphones.  Just as they finish with prayer, Homer stands up and yells because they made a touchdown.  Everyone stares at Homer and he sits back down.

Sunday school is just getting over and the teacher is flustered with all the questions from the children.

Teacher- “I don’t know! …All these questions.  Is a little blind faith too much to ask?”

Reverend Love Joy was proud that he thought he has made an impression on Homer, although he did not realize Homer was not paying attention to his gambling sermon at all.

On the way home, Bart sees a movie, Space Mutants 4, that he wants to see, but Marge refuses to let him, so he goes to Homer and gets money to see the movie (behind Marge’s back).  He runs into some bully boys from school on his way to the movie and they convince him to sneak into the movie with them.  Halfway through the movie, the boys get kicked out and head to the Kwik-E-Mart where all but Bart steels candy and magazines.  They head over to Jebediah Springfield’s statue and start to throw rocks at it.  The bullies tease Bart for not being cool enough to take the head off of the Jebediah statue.  To prove the bullies wrong, in the middle of the night, Bart sneaks out of his house and saws off the head of the statue, feeling guilty after it was done, but brings it home anyways.

The whole town is depressed to find out the news that Jebediah’s head was taken off the statue.  Bart takes the statue head to school to prove to the Bullies he is cool, but once he tries to show the bullies, they tell Bart that they want to beat up whoever took off the head.

Bart gets up enough courage to tell his parents that he was the one to saw off the head.  He and Homer decide to take it back to the statue and the community tries to hunt them down.  Bart tells them this story and they all feel bad for him and cheer Bart on as he puts the head back onto the statue.
