Doughnuts are the obvious choice, but there are so many more options!
Looking to sit down with something a little special, for tonight's landmark 500th Simpsons episode? Here are some ideas, culled from the show's 23-year run:Butterfingers
Do you know how long it's been since the Simpsons hawked Butterfingers candy? But I can still hear Bart squawking "Better not lay a finger on my Butterfinger!" like it was yesterday. Buy these to eat ironically, please. No one liked this "Poochie-esque" chapter in the Simpsons history.
Cheeseburger
Cheeseburgers are one of the most common foods eaten on the Simpsons. Not just Krusty Burgers, either! The good people at SNPP.com have included an entire separate roster of every single time cheeseburgers appear on the show. (Spoiler alert: it's a lot.)
Clam Juice
I've heard it's very refreshing with khlav khalash. I guess you could drink Mountain Dew, but oh! Ugh! Bleccch! Gross!
Doughnuts
Well, obviously. In fact, it's so obvious, you might feel a little bit sheepish about it. But don't worry: embrace it. And if you happen to buy a big assorted box, like they set out at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, be sure to include a few doughnuts with pink icing and sprinkles!
Ham
Surprisingly, ham turns up more often in The Simpsons than you might have expected. It gets served at holiday meals, accompanies breakfast, and then of course there's the wonderful sequence in Lisa's vegetarian episode where she "liberates" the roast suckling pig.
Meatloaf Men
Marge made these in the episode where Lisa won an essay contest and got to deliver her speech in Washington D.C. And is there anything more wonderfully American than the idea of meatloaf men? These are totally do-able, too. Here is a recipe for meatloaf, all you need to do is roll them flat and cut them out with a gingerbread man cookie cutter!
Salad
You don't win friends with salad! You don't win friends with salad!
Slushie
You can buy a Slurpee at 7-11 and I won't tell! Be sure to get grape if you can. That's Milhouse's favorite flavor.
Tofu Dogs
If you buy a hot dog at the Kwik-E-Mart, surprise! It's actually a tofu dog. Apu made the switch because he is - like all good Hindus - a vegan. Lisa loves them, too! And they are a darned sight more delicious than some of the Kwik-E-Mart's other staples, which include creamed eels, corn nog, and wadded beef.
